Stephen Ministry
For Those In Need
Stephen Ministry offers one-to-one, Christ-centered care, to hurting people. Stephen Ministers are the Care Givers, but God is the Cure Giver. If you are seeking someone to be a caring presence in your life, EMAIL for more info.
For Interested Volunteers
Stephen Ministry involves three groups: Stephen Leaders, Stephen Ministers, and care receivers. Stephen Leaders instruct and train our volunteers as Stephen Ministers.
Stephen Ministers once commissioned and matched, meet weekly with care receivers to offer one-to-one, emotional, and spiritual care. Care receivers may be going through various struggles: people experiencing grief, illness, job loss, divorce, relocation, and other life difficulties. Stephen Minister training teaches volunteers that high-quality care builds trust and encourages care receivers to share their situations in total confidentiality. Care receivers speak, and ministers are active listeners and ask open-ended, reflective questions, demonstrating empathy. This helps hurting individuals identify feelings and release some of their burdens.
God’s command that we love one another is as relevant now as it was thousands of years ago, and Stephen Ministry is one way you can show that love. Training Classes begin in October and run through March. Please EMAIL for more information.
Stephen Ministry began in a small church in St. Louis, Missouri in 1975. Today, it’s being used by over 13,000 congregations—small and large, urban and rural— representing more than 180 Christian denominations and located in all 50 states in the US, 10 Canadian provinces, and 30 other countries. www.stephenministries.org
